1 Samuel 1
With 21 Days of Prayer starting at Highlands, I have been thinking a lot about the prayers God has answered in the past & the ones I’m still waiting on Him to answer.
Hannah was someone who knew what it meant to pursue God in prayer. She had been desperately craving a son, & she was honestly very alone in her pursuit of this blessing.
Hannah’s husband, who did not even understand why she wanted children when she had him, had another wife named Elkanah, and she was blessed with many children. She would taunt Hannah for not having any children, & it would reduce her to tears, to the point where she couldn’t eat.
Maybe you’ve felt like that before. You’ve been desperately praying for something (a healing, a calling, clarity, breakthrough, reconciliation, freedom, etc), & it seems like instead of hearing God answer that prayer, you only hear the voices taunting you for praying it in the first place. You’ve been pleading with God, & it seems like nothing has changed.
Well, Woman of God, this is your sign that Heaven hears you, & breakthrough is closer than you know.
Hannah was brought to a moment where her heart shifted; she realized that the gifts God gives us never stop being His.
She promised to give the one thing she wanted most right back to the Lord if he would bless her with it, & after she made this promise, the Bible says, “she was no longer sad” (1:18).
There is a peace that comes when we realize that prayer is about keeping our hands open to the Lord, even after He puts what we prayed for into them.
Hannah kept her promise, & the Lord kept His. She was blessed with a son named Samuel, and she only kept him until he was old enough to be weaned, then she brought him to the Tabernacle as she promised.
Hannah walked away that day knowing that she may have just parted with the only child she would ever have, but here’s the beautiful heart of our Father: He had more for her than that. God blessed Hannah with 3 more sons and 2 daughters.
I’m not sure what you’re praying for right now. I’m not sure what request has brought you to tears lately.
Here’s what I am sure of: Your Heavenly Father has More for You, so don’t stop asking Him.
