Luke 10:38-42
38 As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him into her home. 39 Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. 40 But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.”
41 But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”
It’s disheartening how many things in this world are trying to pull us away from the feet of Jesus.
It’s all grasping for our attention: politics, news, social media, relationships, comparison, the list goes on & on. Some of the things fighting for our attention aren’t even bad things. Helping her sister prepare a meal for Jesus would not have been a bad thing, but it wasn’t where Mary’s focus needed to be.
What has your focus been on lately?
I’ve found it very easy recently to turn my attention & energy to the wrong things, & it has left me exhausted. Maybe you’ve felt exhausted too.
The beautiful thing, though, is that there’s a place we can bring our exhaustion that will never be taken away from us: the Feet of Jesus.
No matter what happens around us, no matter what is fighting for our attention, the feet of Jesus are always available to us. Learning from Him, being with Him, is the only thing worth being concerned about. If we do that, everything else will fall into place.
No matter how hard we try, we cannot control anything. But we can position ourselves at the feet of the One who already controls everything.
Matthew 11:28 “Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”
The King is inviting you back to his feet, where you can make a trade that could never be earned: Your Heaviness for His Rest.
