I Gave Up

"When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you who watch over my way." Psalm 142:3a

Do you ever feel like you're just tired of fighting? You've tried everything, but nothing seems to go the way you would like it to. I can relate. Lately it seems like no matter what I do, there's always something I should've done differently. I have been pushed to my breaking point, and it's almost guaranteed that we will get here sometimes. "In this world you will have trouble, but take heart! I have overcome the world" John 16:33. "We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God" Acts 14:22. The important part is not that you get to your breaking point, but what you do when you get here. I feel like there are three main reactions when you're faced with this point in your life; hold onto control, lose control, or give up control.

I had to eventually realize that I could not control everything in my life. I am a very fix it person, but we aren't meant to fix things ourselves. My first reaction was to hold on. I didn't want to pray for God's will and let him take over. I wanted to pray for my will and have him fix it for me. When that didn't work, I fell into the middle category. I lost control. I felt my life spinning around me. I constantly thought there was something I would change if I could. I lived in a state of constant regret, and that makes you feel trapped. Eventually, I decided my way was not what was best for me. I decided to let the author write my story. I gave up. I gave up control, my dreams, my plans, my ideas, and my wants. I daily have to re-give it up because it's not easy, but the exchange is so worth while. Give God the control in your life. His ways are higher than our ways, and He knows us better than we know ourselves. Trust Him, and He'll never fail you.

(Jeremiah 29:11)
