“You love me as you find me”
I’ve been listening to Hillsong’s song “As You Find Me,” and I’ve been thinking about this line. He loves us as he finds us. It doesn’t matter what state he finds us in, he loves us. Even on the days where I’m not seeking him, he’s seeking me. He loves us as he finds us. He finds us multiple times, and he wants us to find him multiple times.
I’ve been thinking about the state that Jesus will find me in as he finds me today, and it is not a terribly sinful one or anything. However, I have felt convicted about it because I have fallen victim to one of the Devil’s most powerful and most appealing traps, complacency.
Now, I have had misconceptions about complacency in the past. I used to think that complacency meant not wanting to, or lacking the desire to, move forward in your relationship with God, but that’s not really what it is. The definition of complacency is “a feeling of quiet pleasure or security, often while unaware of some potential danger, defect, or the like” Complacency is so dangerous because of what it causes you to do, nothing.
Complacency makes you quiet. When we aren’t seeking God, when we aren’t practicing spiritual warfare, when we aren’t giving him our best, the enemy is being permitted to run without the opposition that you could provide. Now, it is true that Satan has to ask for permission before he can do anything (as we see in Job chapter 1), however, sin does rule this world. Therefore, we should always be using the power that God gave to us because our fight does make a difference. Satan is fighting for everyone around you; so, don’t stay quiet, fight for them too. Jesus says that “Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” Matthew 18:18. Romans 8:11 says that the same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you. So, speak up! You have the power of life and death in your tongue! (Proverbs 18:21).
Complacency also makes you unaware. One of the most dangerous parts of complacency is the fact that you can be totally unaware that you have been living complacent. The bright side to this is that complacency is one of the easiest fixes, just start chasing him again. – You can also become unaware of the spiritual warfare going on around you or the opportunities God’s trying to give you. Your point of view shifts entirely when you recognize that the real fight isn’t against flesh and blood, but against Satan and his spiritual forces (Ephesians 6:12). If Satan can keep you unaware of what God’s trying to do, you’ll be one less Christian for him to worry about. Be a follower of Christ that Satan has to worry about.
“The complacency of fools will destroy them” Proverbs 1:32b. You don’t have to be living in sin to be in danger. You could simply just not be moving. If you ever find yourself here, like I have, remember, He loves you as he finds you, and He always finds you.
